A light modulation apparatus used in a projection type of an image display apparatus is disclosed. The light modulation apparatus comprises transparent plates(31,32) having a first and a second holes(33,34); a variation part(35) having a first side which is formed over the plates and formed with transparent piezoelectric materials and a second side formed at opposit side of the first side; a first and a second electrodes(41,43) formed at the first and the second sides of the variation part so as to fill the first and second holes; and a transparent forward glass(45) departed from the top of the variation part and containing extinction gas with the plates.
