The guard flange (7) has a thrust surface (7c) with its generating line forming an angle (A) relative to a radial plane before the flange is assembled. A truncated conical connecting surface (7d) adjoins the thrust surface and is cut to form a series of radial elastic tongues (8) at an angle (B) to the radial plane. Angle A is between 5 and 20 degrees, and angle B between 40 and 80 degrees. The bearing ring (2) which supports the guard flange (7) has a radial thrust surface (2a) for the flange. A surface of revolution (2b) is adjacent to it with an annular groove (9) to grip the flange when it is clipped into place. The guard flange can be fitted to the fixed or rotating ring, or to the inner or outer ring of the bearing.
