PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To observe an optical fiber in two orthogonal (y) and (x) directions through minimum processes in the shortest time when the optical fiber is connected by fusion splicing. SOLUTION: A reflecting mirror 40 is placed nearby an optical fiber 20 and observed in the (y) direction through one objective 50, and at the same time, a virtual image 21 of the optical fiber 20 which is reflected in the reflecting mirror 40 and viewed in the (x) direction is observed. Consequently, only one objective 50 is needed and the need for a filed switching function is eliminated, so the observing mechanism is made small-sized and lightweight. Further, the two images can be observed on the same screen, so (y)- and (x)- directional image data needed for image processing can be obtained at the same time and arithmetic processing is speeded up. |
