<p>The invention relates to a compound of formula (I) wherein A is a carbon double bond having the stereochemical configuration E or Z, i.e. of formula (a) or (b), respectively, R is hydroxy and R1 is hydrogen or =CH¿2? or R is hydrogen or fluoro and R?1¿ is =CH¿2?. Compounds of formula (I) induce differentiation and inhibition of proliferation in certain skin and cancer cell lines. Accordingly, the compounds of formula (I) are useful as agents for the treatment of hyperproliferative skin diseases such as psoriasis. Compounds of formula (I) are also useful as agents for the treatment of neoplastic diseases, such as leukemia.</p> |
