The method involves determining a desired output state to be effected during a given control period. A first pulse width modulated output state is determined as one of the two of the number of discrete pulse width modulated output states that immediately flank the desired output state. A second pulse width modulated output state is determined as the other of the two of the number of discrete pulse width modulated output states which immediately flank the desired output state. The method further entails executing the first pulse width modulated state for a first total duration during the set control period. The second pulse width modulated state is executed for a second total duration during the set control period. The control period consists of the first and second total durations.
