The invention provides a compact flexible shaft coupling comprising a driving flange 2 and a driven flange 4 and a central relay member 10 wherein (a) said relay member (10) is disposed axially between said driving flange (2) and said driven flange (4); or (b) said relay member (10) is disposed radially outwardly of the driving flange (2) and the driven flange (4). In one embodiment a plurality of leaf springs 20a,20b;22a,22b interconnect the rear face of the driving flange 2 to said relay member 10; and a further plurality of leaf springs 24a,24b;26a,26b interconnect the rear face of the driven flange 4 to said relay 10. In a further embodiment said plurality of leaf springs are replaced by a single ring-shaped leaf spring on the rear face of the driving flange 2 and a single-ring shaped leaf spring on the rear face of the driven flange 4. <IMAGE>
