PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a uniform lighting in a wider brightness range and to decrease and increase smoothly its brightness. SOLUTION: A fluorescent discharging lamp 1 comprises two glow mode electrodes 15, 16 wound spirally. One circuit 21 drives the main electrodes 10, 11 in the opposite ends of the lamp at the time of high brightness. Another circuit 22 drives the glow mode electrodes 15, 16 at approximately 10MHz at the time of low level brightness. For intermediate brightness, main electrodes 10, 11 and glow mode electrodes 15, 16 are both driven. These two sets of electrodes are driven alternatively, such that, when the main electrodes turn off, the glow mode electrodes turn on, and when the main electrodes turn on, the glow mode electrodes turn off. |
