PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the reflection factor and total transmissivity and to improve the contrast, black deepness and color purity by forming a film which has wavelength selective absorptivity on an upper glass substrate. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal 3 is sandwiched between a couple of glass substrates 1 and 2 and the wavelength selecting light absorptive film 8 is formed as the base layer of a functional film group 4 formed on the liquid-crystal side surface of the upper glass substrate 1 by using at least one kind of oxide selected among silicon, zinc, and titanium as a principal component and adding a coloring component giving wavelength selective absorptivity thereto. Further, a wavelength selecting light absorptive film 9 is formed of similar materials on the top surface of an upper polarizing plate 6. Outside the lower glass substrate 2, i.e., on the reverse surface of a liquid crystal display device, what is called a backlight is arranged to lighten up the entire display surface of the liquid crystal display device. The films 8 and 9 are both provided to improve the contrast, black deposition, and color purity more. |
