A motor vehicle interior part has a shapeable outer contour in at least one region, the region formed from a pliable element filled with electrorheological fluid and to which an electrical circuit is connected to reduce and increase the internal friction of the fluid to enable the element to be customisable to the individual. As shown, shift lever 1 on centre console 2 comprises a bar element 3,4 with a manually engageable gripping region 5,6 surrounding it and having a plastic casing 6 filled with the electrorheological fluid 6 to which a voltage may be applied from electrical circuit 9 for individual moulding for vehicle occupant. The part may alternatively be vehicle seats (fig 2) or interior trim parts. The circuit may be closed by means of an impact sensor so that the device may also serve as an energy-absorbing element. |
