The locking device for the steering column (5) comprises a lock (1) with a drive barrel (3) and a locking tenon (4) penetrating into the steering column. The tenon is operated by a key (2) turning with the end of the barrel between two positions in which the tenon is either engaged in the steering column or disengaged. The lock is further enhanced by the addition of a unit (7) on the side of the lock barrel which is able to block rotation of the barrel. This operates under the control of a unit (9) which is used to identify the user. The user may be identified by means of an electronic card reader (10) which operates in conjunction with a secret code entered by the card user. |
