METHOD AND DEVICE FOR ERROR MASKING AT THE TIME OF DECODING DATA STREAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method and the device making an error in the case of decoding a data stream representing a moving picture coded in compliance with the MPEG standards. SOLUTION: Information generated by a variable length decoder 1 is grouped again as information functions to be supplied by motion vectors forming macro blocks related to each other to form a string in itself related to form an image. A motion vector relating to each image n is stored in a masking memory 6 while a macro block for a succeeding image (n+1) is grouped again and when any error is detected in any of produced information, the macro block is deleted and replaced with a macro block having the same value as that of a macro block corresponding to the preceding image n.
