HIGH MAGNIFICATION INDIRECT OPHTHALMOSCOPY LENS DEVICE

An indirect ophthalmoscopy lens device is provided comprising an image forming lens system (10) for collecting and focusing light exiting a patient's eye to form a real image of the fundus of the eye at a location (I1) outside the eye and anterior of the image forming lens system (10). An anterior lens (12) having a convex anterior surface (5a) is disposed anterior to the image forming lens system (10) so that the real image formed by the image forming lens system (10) is located posterior of the convex anterior surface (5a). The convex anterior surface (5a) refracts the chief rays (CR1-CR5) of ray bundles (B1-B5) generally towards a collecting lens of a slit-lamp or other biomicroscope such that when viewed therefrom a virtual image is formed at location (VI) having positive magnification relative to the real image formed at (I1) and relative to the fundus of the eye.
