The switching mat system has at least one switching mat with an electric switch looped in a detector circuit. The switch has a conducting loop pattern (3) extending over the mat surface. It forms a current circuit branch of the detector circuit, which can be interrupted by a mechanical penetration reaction. The resulting signal is led to an evaluation. The conducting loop pattern consists of a single, unbranched conducting loop, which extends in the form of windings, lying close to each other, extending over the mat surface. The conducting loop pattern can consist of two part patterns, with respectively a row of close lying conducting loop windings.
