A polymer electrolyte (PE) fuel cell (1) has anode and cathode regions (3,2), a polymeric membrane (4) between them, a device to admit oxygen to the cathode region, gas channels to subdivide the air here, a device to admit fuel gas to the anode region and similar gas channels here. There is a device to bring water directly into the cathode or anode channels. There are also limiting bipolar plates (10,6) at the electrodes which are corrugated at least in part. The troughs provide the required subdivision of the air and fuel gas. When the water is admitted, there is no mixing of it with the air or fuel gas admitted. |
