Laminator for corrugated paperboard sheets

A laminator for applying pre-printed labels (10) to a single face corrugated web (12) to form double face corrugated sheets utilizes a control system including accurate leading and trailing edge detection of the labels (10) to custom cut the corrugated web (12) to match the label length in a manner which assures complete and uniform coverage of the glued flute tips of the corrugated web by the labels. The labels are fed non-stop as a series of spaced sheets (10) into a laminating nip (11) to join the leading edge (31) of the travelling single face corrugated web (12). A positioning nip (33) upstream of the laminating nip (11) varies the speed of the incoming sheets (10) to accurately match sheet leading edge (33) to web leading edge (31). Detection of the sheet trailing edge (34) triggers operation of the web cut-off knife (20) to accurately match the corresponding cut trailing edge (40).
