摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent contamination in a liquid crystal with a residual solvent, to obtain uniform and good orientation without orientation defects, and to obtain a liquid crystal device of high reliability and high quality by forming coating-type insulating films and orientation controlling films by printing and then baking the printed films in a vacuum atmosphere to completely remove the solvent included in the printing liquid. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device consists of a pair of upper and lower substrates 11a, 11b disposed parallel to each other, strip-like transparent substrates 12a, 12b disposed on the respective substrates, inorg. insulating films 13a, 13b to prevent short circuits, coating-type insulating films 14a, 14b to supplementarily prevent short circuits, and orientation controlling films 15a, 15b, respectively. When the orientation controlling films 15a, 15b and the coating-type insulating films 14a, 14b are formed, a printing liquid containing the material of these layers is used to form a printed film and then the film is baked in a vacuum atmosphere so as to completely remove the solvent included in the liquid. When a liquid crystal is injected to a cell formed by using the substrates thus formed, the liquid crystal is not contaminated with a residual solvent.
