<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to stably feed a ribbon irrespective of a recording medium and to improve the printing quality level by controlling the maximum driving range of the heating element of a thermal head according to the type of the medium. SOLUTION: A CPU 62 provided in the printer inputs the type of the recording medium to be used by an indication switch 61, and selects the corresponding table from a head driving table 63 or storing the type of the medium to be used. If the medium to be used is a plain sheet or a sheet such as a postcard, all heating elements of a thermal head 6 are used for recording. If the medium is OHP sheet, the table of the table 63 is so selected to record only by the other element without using the heating elements of the predetermined number (e.g. 20 pieces of upper and lower elements) of both the ends (upper and lower ends) of the elements of the head 6 for recording.</p> |
