Image processing process and device for detecting regions with a predetermined cancer type in an intensity image

The image processing technique includes analysis of a number of points within the image. This includes determination of a vector value from components formed by characteristic values derived from the intensity distribution in this particular part of the image surrounding a given point. A classification system is then used to determine the probability that the point associated with the vector values corresponds to a cancer within this or a related region of the image. Following this analysis, those points having a probability above a certain threshold are labelled in order to define groups which may indicate the presence of a cancer. The image is then divided into two regions corresponding to the potentially cancerous and the normal regions of the image.
