PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an upper nozzle for a sliding nozzle device excellent in wear resistance to molten steel flow and oxygen cleaning. SOLUTION: This upper nozzle is produced by compounding 60-95wt.% alumina containing >=95wt.% Al2 O3 and <3wt.% SiO2 , 1-25wt.% Al2 O3 MgO spinel having <=75μm particle size and 0-5wt.% Al2 O3 MgO spinel having >75μm particle size with 100wt.% refractory aggregate containing 1-15wt.% carbon, and to the total of these, compounding aluminum and/or aluminum alloy by 0.5-8wt.% (outer percentage) and a carbonaceous binder. The compounded material is then formed and dried by heating. |
