Described is an apparatus for modifying the reception volume of a pack carrier (3) which is held on a line (1) and has at least one side wall (4) which is flat on the outside, lies next to the line (1) and extends parallel to the latter and to the conveying direction of the pack carriers (3), recesses (5) being made on the inner surface of the pack carrier (3) for positioning the pack. To improve such an apparatus to the extent that the packs are held better and the modifying of the volume is possible at virtually any point of a conveyor with even simpler means, it is proposed according to the invention that the recesses (5) be arranged at a distance from one another at the inner surface of the pack carrier (3) in the direction of its longitudinal centre axis (6), that the pack carrier (3) have the form of a sleeve open at both ends, and that a stop part (9) movable relative to the pack carrier (3) be provided.
