In an instrument installation for measuring the temperature of body wholly or largely enclosed in thermal insulation comprises a temperature detector such as the thermocouple located between the body and the insulation with electrical or other appropriate connecting means extending through the insulation and open at the exposed end. The temperature detector is removably mounted in a smoothly curved tube permanently installed, extending through the insulation and open at the exposed end so that the detector can be removed and replaced without the need to interfere with the thermal insulation.
