A method for extinguishing fire uses a gaseous fire-extinguishing agent having as an active component thereof a polyfluoro-tertiary amine represented by the following formula:(CF3)2NRfwherein Rf stands for a polyfluoroalkyl group of 1-4 carbon atoms or a polyfluoroalkenyl group of 1-4 carbon atoms.
