PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an alcohol economically in a high yield, less in necessary amount of hydrogen, and capable of reducing unreacted raw materials, byproducts, etc., to the extent not requiring a purifying process by subjecting the raw material of the alcohol to a reducing reaction under a specific condition. SOLUTION: This method for producing an alcohol is constituted by continuously passing the raw material of the alcohol and hydrogen through a reaction area where a hydrogenation catalyst is present and supplying them as a gas or the mixture of a liquid and a gas. Further, the raw material is catalytically reduced under such a temperature condition, a pressure condition and the condition of a hydrogen molar ratio (hydrogen atom/acyl group in the raw material of the alcohol) that 20-80wt.% vaporization ratio of the raw material of the alcohol is attained. To make the vaporization ratio of the raw material of the alcohol within this range, it is preferable to adjust at 150-270 deg.C temperature and 20-60atm pressure in a reaction vessel. Also, the hydrogen molar ratio is preferably 50-700 in the case when using lauric acid as the raw material. Further, it is preferable to adjust at 200-6000VG/VL, wherein the ratio of liquid phase part superficial velocity is denotes as (VL) and gas phase part superficial velocity as (VG) of the mixture of the raw material of the alcohol with hydrogen. |
