PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select a channel by receiving and displaying electronic program information. SOLUTION: Various main information such as video image, audio signal and data is digitized together with addition information such as control information, and an ISDB use broadcast signal obtained by applying packet processing and multiplexing processing to the digitized signal is received. The receiver 40 is provided with an ISDB tuner 46, decoding sections 52, 66, 68 decoding the main information and data, a memory means 70 storing electronic program information consisting of various information representing the broadcast program content decoded by the decoding section 68, and a control section 58. The electronic program information is received and stored and displayed on a screen and selected for the channel, then a program is confirmed on the screen without a television column of newspaper/magazines and the channel is selected simply on the screen.
