HOLDER FOR FUSING OPTICAL FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to enhance an electric insulating characteristic and to withstand long-term use by forming a holder for fusing optical fibers having holding grooves for positioning and holding the optical fibers and a discharge groove for arranging discharge electrodes of forsterite ceramics. SOLUTION: This holder is constituted by having the discharge groove 4 for arranging the discharge electrode in the central part of a planar body 5 consisting of forsterite ceramics to a rectangular shape and providing the surface of projecting parts 3 on both sides with the holding grooves 2 formed to a V shape for holding the optical fibers respectively in juxtaposition at a specified pitch. The depth of the holding grooves 2 formed to the V shape is made shallower than the diameter of the optical fibers so that the optical fibers are exactly positioned and held by three points of the inside surfaces of the holding grooves 2 and the pressing surface of a clamp when the optical fibers are pressed by this clamp. The roughness of the inside surfaces of the holding grooves 2 is set at <=0.15μm so as not to flaw the optical fibers at the time of pressing by the clamp.
