PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic recording medium having high electromagnetic transducing output by imparting prescribed characteristics to a magnetic recording medium with a magnetic layer contg. magnetic powder of a ferromagnetic metal and a resin binder on the nonmagnetic substrate. SOLUTION: In a magnetic recording medium with a magnetic layer contg. magnetic powder of a ferromagnetic metal and a resin binder on the nonmagnetic substrate, the surface gloss of the magnetic layer is regulated to >=250 gloss units at 20 deg. angle of incidence and 20 deg. angle of reflectance, and the haze value of reflected light at 20 deg. angle of incidence and 20±1.8 deg. angle of reflectance is regulated to <=100. The objective magnetic recording medium having high electromagnetic transducing output is obtd.
