A method for preparing a relatively highly available source of magnesium comprises blending a first mixture with a slurry to form a second mixture, the first mixture and slurry both comprising magnesium oxide and magnesium hydroxide. The second mixture is subjected to a temperature of 125-250‹C to form a dry third mixture of magnesium oxide and magnesium hydroxide of moisture content not exceeding 5% by weight. The third mixture is suitable as an ingredient for an animal feed supplement or fertilizer.
