1,105,227. Accumulator electrodes. VARTA A.G. 6 Dec., 1966 [11 Dec., 1965], No. 54584/66. Heading H1B. The invention comprises a galvanic cell having a coiled electrode group comprising a spiral of interwound flat electrodes and separators, at least one of the electrodes having a series of lugs projecting axially from one edge and being bent inwardly through about 90‹ C. The electrodes may comprise Ni foil covered with sintered Ni in the pores of which the active material is embedded. The separators may be broader than the electrodes so that they project beyond them in the coil. Both electrodes may have lugs made of Ni projecting beyond the separators on opposite faces of the coil or the negative plate only may have lugs the positive plate having a continuous projecting border of Ni. The lugs may be arranged in radial lines and may overlap to provide a conductive layer on one end of the coil through which good contact may be made with the conductive case of the cell or its insulated conductive cover. Contact may be improved by fitting a spring between the coil and the case or cover pressing in an axial direction. The invention may be applied to an alkaline accumulator. |
