摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an STN liquid crystal display element which has a wide d/P margin and can reduce driving voltage with improved production yields. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display element made by inserting at least a nematic liquid crystal material having a nematic liquid crystal phase at least in a temperature range from -10 to 80 deg.C and a monofunctional chiral (meth) acrylate polymer between two base plates which have an electrode layer and an oriented layer forming a pre-tilt angle of 1-30 deg. and at least one of which is transparent, with the nematic liquid crystal material showing twisted nematic orientation of a twist angle of 180-270 deg., wherein the monofunctional chiral (meth) acrylate polymer is obtained by polymerizing a monofunctional chiral (meth) acrylate in a chiral nematic liquid crystal material containing the nematic liquid crystal material and the monofunctional chiral (meth)acrylate.
