A process for the preparation of a cyclic ether ketone of the general formula I <IMAGE> (I) in which R1 and R2 denote hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl, m and n denote integers from 1 to 5, in which a cyclic ether aldehyde of the general formula I <IMAGE> (II) in which have R1, R2, m and n have the above meanings, is reacted with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a solid or supported catalyst containing copper and/or manganese, at temperatures of from 50 DEG to 300 DEG C. and pressures of from 0.01 to 10 bar.
