Sepn. column for granular cationic- and anionic exchange resins achieves efficient partition

Sepn. column (12) is for the granular cationic- and anionic exchanger resins (40, 38) of a mixed-bed ion exchanger. It pref. has an upper inlet for resin, with water inlet and outlet. There is a resin extn. tube with a downwardly-facing basal withdrawal opening. Above this, with a defined spacing, there is a second extn. tube (44). The cationic and anionic exchange resins (40, 48) separate under the influence of gravity, exhibiting a sharp horizontal partition plane (42). The anionic exchange resin (38) is above the cationic. The novel feature is a baffle plate (56) located with a set clearance below the extn. opening (54) of the second resin extn. tube (44). This plate lies in the plane of the partition.
