PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a switching element to be defective by the flow of a large continuous short-circuiting current when a method for preventing the application of a necessary or higher voltage to a smoothing capacitor caused by the output side short-circuiting of an inverter at the time of operating a permanent magnet type synchronous motor to be field-weakening controlled at a high speed. SOLUTION: The AC motor relates to a permanent magnet type synchronous motor for driving an electric vehicle to be driven via an inverter with a battery as a power source. The reactance X (n) per one phase as observed from a motor terminal at the number of revolutions (n) of the synchronous motor satisfies X (n)>=E0 (n)/IDm0 (E0 (n): the induced voltage of the motor at the number of revolutions (n), and IDm : the allowable maximum current of the switching element of the inverter). |
