<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the capacity of a buffer for ATM cells by an ATM switch. SOLUTION: In the case of switching ATM cells by a certain unit switch in a multi-stage switch, the ATM cells are converted into parallel cells by a serial/parallel(S/P) conversion multiplexer 11 and overhead is extracted by an overhead extracting function 12. The extracted overhead is inputted to a writing/reading address determining function part 13 for a butter 14 to obtain a suitable writing address in the buffer 14. After canceling the extracted overhead, information left after the extraction of the overhead is written in the buffer 14 by the use of the writing address. Thus the ATM cells are buffered. Since the buffering of the overhead of the ATM cells is not executed, the capacity of the buffer for buffering the ATM cells can be reduced.</p> |
