PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the distance of an object without being affected by objects other than a detection in the visual fields of image sensors by detecting the distance of the object based on the relative between both visual field portions including images of the object in the visual field portions of a pair of image sensors. SOLUTION: Image I1, 12 of an object 1 formed on image sensors 21, 22 by lenses 11, 12 are shown at the upper section of a figure, and an image of a preceding automobile 1a is shown adjacently to them. Image data ID1, ID2 include M pieces of light intensity data respectively, and data numbers of detection reference positions corresponding to the direction of an angleθcontaining the object 1 are shown as ir and jr. Visual field setting means 30, 40 extract visual field portions D1, D2 including the light intensity data below the image data ID1, ID2 respectively and set visual field anglesϕ1,ϕ2 acquiring the object 1. A distance detecting means 50 detects the relative dislocation between portions containing the images I1, I2 of the object 1 in the visual field portions D1, D2 as a distance indexα. |
