PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently increase the yield of turnip by spraying stems of leaves of a turnip plant in an early period of secondary thickening growth of root part with a plant growth regulator of gibberellin biosynthesis inhibiting type. SOLUTION: Stems of leaves of a turnip plant in an early period or in a middle period of secondary thickening growth of root part are sprayed with a plant growth regulator of gibberellin biosynthesis inhibiting type such as a triazole-based compound, e.g. (E)-1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,4-dimethyl-2-(1,2,4-triazol-1- yl)-1-penten-3-ol (salt), etc., an isonicotinanilide-based compound, e.g. 4'- chloro-2'-(α-hydroxybenzyl)isonicotinanilide, etc., or a pyrimidine-based compound, etc., to increase the yield of turnip. The amount of the plant growth regulator used is preferably 0.01-50,000g/ha calculated as the amount an active ingredient by using a solution containing 0.01-1,000ppm of the active ingredient.
