The seal has a flat metallic gasket (1) fitted between sealing surfaces on the cylinder head and cylinder block of an internal combustion engine. It has a metal layer with an elastomeric resting surface (5), which has at least one crimp (2) with a tip (3) and feet (4) in order to seal a combustion chamber opening (6). The feet face the sealing surface with the higher surface roughness, in order to cause less damage to the elastomer layer due to the lower surface pressure of the dual labyrinth seal which they form. The cylinder head may be made from an alloy, and the block may be made from grey iron, in which case the feet are arranged to point towards the latter. -
