[Also in Division H3] A commutating circuit for a D.C. load comprises a motor 7 in series with a thyristor 1 having an extinguishing circuit including a capacitor 3, a second thyristor 2, with an inductance 5 and a third rectifier 4 connected across the thyristor 2. Connected in the main circuit is an air cored choke 8, the stored energy from which supplements the voltage from the source B for capacitor charging. Where the rectifier 4 is uncontrolled, an additional diode (9) (Fig. 5, not shown) must be connected serially with the choke.
