PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an acylamino-substituted 1,3,5-triazine derivative useful as intermediate for fine chemicals, various resin materials, flame-retarding materials, etc., under relatively mild reaction condition in high yield. SOLUTION: A 1,3,5-triazine derivative having amino group, etc., on a ring carbon atom, e.g. a compound of formula [at least one of X<1> to X<3> is NHR<1> (R<1> is H, a 1-20C alkyl, etc.) and the others are NR<2> R<3> (R<2> and R<3> are each independently a 1-20C alkyl, etc.)] (e.g. melamine) is made to react with an organic halide (e.g. methyl iodide) in the presence of a catalyst of the group VIII element of the periodic table (e.g. palladium chloride- diphenylphosphinobutane), a CO-containing gas and a base (e.g. sodium carbonate) to acylate at least one amino group or mono-substituted amino group of the derivative. |
