A device for use in a dobby head comprising a lower plate (1) supporting hooks (2) and an upper portion supporting the selection device and movable relative to the lower plate (1). The device comprises members (3) provided with a projection (4), the position of the projection (4) relative to the hook (2) being controlled by an electromagnetic device that includes a coil (11). Each member (3) is a rigid blade comprising a portion (9) made of magnetic material and pivotably mounted about a shaft (7). The device comprises means (14) for generating a permanent magnetic field around said portion (9), and the coil (11) is used to actuate the portion (9) so that, depending on the polarities of the coil and the permanent magnetic field, the member (3) is pivoted into a first position in which it can engage a lower hook (2), or a second position in which no such engagement is possible.
