In a rainwater cistern, the novelty is that: (a) a pre-formed water-filter assembly (2) is suspended and secured near the top of a concrete-lined vertical shaft (10) used as an outdoor water butt or cistern; (b) the filter assembly (2) incorporates a water inlet (23), overflow (24), and drain pipe (25); and (c) the cistern (10) has a foil lining bag (5,5') open at the top and secured by a tie-wrap (50) to the outer base of the filter (2).
