METHOD FOR PREVENTING T4 LYMPHOCYTE FROM BEING INFECTED WITHLAV VIRUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect lymphocytes from an etiologic material (LAV virus) of lymphadenopathy and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome by contacting T lymphocytes with an anti-T4 antigen. SOLUTION: This method for preventing infection of LAV virus to T4 lymphocytes is to contact the T4 lymphocytes with T4 protein having a fixed part of LAV virus or a T4 protein fragment (preferably one which can be recognized by an anti-T4 antibody excreted from a hydridoma called ATCC CRL 8002). The amount of the T4 protein is that which can compete with the lymphocytes against the virus contacted with both the protein and the lymphocytes and thus the lymphocytes are protected from the virus.
