PURPOSE: To provide an optical element material suitable for a material for optical isolator, etc., having little inserting loss and large quenching ratio by shortening the time for producing the optical element material, capable of producing at a low cost and enabling to be cut and processed in every directions. CONSTITUTION: This optical element material comprises bismuth substituted terbium iron garnet having a composition expressed by Bix Tb3-x Fe5 O12 [(x)<=0.50] and consists of a polycrystalline substance having >=20μm average crystal particle size and >=99.998% relative density. Preferably the garnet consists of the polycrystalline substance having >=30μm average crystal particle size and >=99.999% relative density and the optical element material is for Faraday element in which (x) is 0.35-0.45.
