The appts. to size a band of yarns has a main mangle station (1) with an immersed roller (6) and initial mangle roller (5) located in front of it as a pair of rollers (4) on a common lift/pressure system (7,8). The initial mangle roller (5) is pressed against the upper roller (3) of the main mangle station (1) by the lift/pressure system (7,8) to develop pressure in the leading mangle gap (19) and to press the immersed roller (6) against the initial mangle roller (5) for a scraping force. Pref. the movement path of the band of yarns (16) from the immersed roller (6) to the main mangle gap (15) is over the upper initial mangle roller (5) above the immersed roller (6) to the initial mangle gap (20). Or the yarn (16) path is diverted round the immersed roller (6) in the size (13) bath (12) to move directly to the main mangle station (1) after impregnation and round one of its rollers (15) to the main mangle gap (20). The immersed roller (6) is moved by the lift/pressure system (7,8) towards the initial mangle roller (5) to form a scraping gap (19) between them with mechanical pressure on the yarns (16) through the two rollers (5,6). The common tangents of the main rollers (2,3) run between the horizontals and the verticals. On a horizontal tangent of the main mangle gap (15), the lower main roller (2) is partially immersed in the size (13) in the bath (12).
