This publication describes a soft calender roll, comprising a frame structure 1 and at least one soft roller 9 and at least one hard roller 8, between which the paper slides in a nip, and bearing brackets 2, 3 with bearings to which the rollers are fastened by their ends so that they can rotate. The bearing brackets 2, 3 at the same roller end are coupled to each other so that they can turn by means of pivots 10, and the rollers 8, 9 can be pressed against each other by a manoeuvring arrangement at both the ends of the rollers 8, 9 via the bearing brackets 2, 3 by turning about the pivot 10. <IMAGE>
