Projection type motor vehicle headlamp comprising an improved mirror

The headlamp for a vehicle comprises a lamp (La) and an elliptical mirror (M). The mirror has a first focus (Fa) in the vicinity of the lamp source and a second focus (Fb) which is further forward w.r.t. to the lamp beam. The first and second focus points together define an optical axis (x). A converging lens (Le) is situated with its focal plane (PF) near to the second focus (Fb). The mirror extends axially in the direction of the lens, beyond a plane perpendicular to the optical axis and equidistant from the two foci. A shutter (E) is mounted inside the space enclosed by the mirror. This shutter extends from the lower front edge of the mirror (200) back up to a point near the second focus (Fb), preventing light leaving the headlamp assembly in a specific direction.
