FIELD: chemistry of high-molecular compounds; methods of treating semipervious, cellulose acetate-based membranes to improve their selectivity. SUBSTANCE: method involves pretreating membrane surface with 0-35%-aqueous glycerol solution at temperature 15-25 C, treating with aqueous acetic acid solution at 15-25 C, washing with water at 15-25 C, followed by annealing in water at 65-75 C for 3-5 min. Thereupon, membranes intended for ultrafiltration are treated with 35-65%-aqueous acetic solution for 20-180 min, whereas membranes intended for back osmosis are treated with 25-45%-aqueous acetic acid solution for 5-30 min.
