FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy and electrolytic processes. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of magnesium via electrolysis of melt salts. Electrolyzer has housing 1, refractory 2 and thermoinsulating 3 materials, a layer of material containing alumina or alumina/silica mixture 5, electrolytic compartments 6, anodes 7 with cast iron contact heads 8 placed in the bottom, cathodes 9, partitions 10, combined cell 11, and coverings 12. Lower part of cast iron contact heads 8 contains transverse channels 13 with depth 0.5-2.0 thicknesses of layer of material containing alumina/silica. Lower face of contact head is made at angle 1-20 deg. Heat resistance of linen under anode contact heads is 0.01-1.0 sq.m h deg/W. Assembly of electrolyzer includes mounting housing 1, spreading a layer of electroinsulating material 4, pouring suspension of alumina or alumina/silica (50- 95:0.1-50) mixture in 2-5% inorganic acid, thermal seasoning, mounting anodes 7, pouring the above said suspension, thermal seasoning, placement thermoinsulating (3) and refractory (2) materials. Thermal seasoning is carried out at 20-99 C for 1-30 h to residual moisture 1-20%. As alumina-containing material, naturally occurring alumina or its mixture with corundum are utilized, and, as silica-containing material, disthen-sillimanite concentrate. Poured suspension is characterized with solids to liquid ratio (5-6):1 and pH 3-4. EFFECT: increased electrolyzer power owing to removal of heat through bottom. |
