1,235,398. Reduction of nitro compounds to amines. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. 22 Oct., 1969 [27 Nov., 1968], No. 51839/69. Heading C2C. Nitro compounds are reduced to amines, at temperatures between 100‹ C. and the decomposition temperature of the product amine, with a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a ruthenium carbonyl, preferably dodecacarbonyl triruthenium, or a compound which forms a ruthenium carbonyl under the reaction conditions, e.g. Ru III acetates, Ru (C 5 H 5 ) 2 , tris-(acetylacetonato) ruthenium and bis-(acetylacetonato) his-(triphenylphosphine) ruthenium. Examples describe the preparation of isopropylamine, aniline, 2,4 - diamino toluene, 4,4<SP>1</SP>,4<SP>11 </SP>- (p - aminophenyl) amine and N,N - dipropionamide - 4- aminobenzamide. The presence of inert solvents, such as benzene, is desirable. |
