<p>Hoops 5 around bales of textile fibres 6 are detected by detector 10 and cut by cutter 8. Any hoops remaining are detected by vertically-spaced detectors 11 a and 11 b (not shown). The cutter 8, comprising a hoop lifter (8 a , Fig. 5, not shown) and a bladed, star-shaped, rotary cutter (8 b ), has a hoop detector 12. Hoop remover 9 has hoop detector 13. The detectors are inductive proximity metal sensors. Automatic detecting and cutting, including control of bale feed and removal, has the detectors connected to a microcomputer. Bales are fed by slide element 7, and pressed against a rear wall during pivoting advance of cutter 8 in the direction of arrow E.</p> |
