PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for providing different speed ranges for a speed pedal. SOLUTION: A method for providing different speed ranges for a speed pedal in a continuously variable transmission having closed loop control is disclosed. This method comprises the steps of monitoring an output speed of the continuously variable transmission, monitoring a speed pedal position relative to the output speed of the transmission, establishing a plurality of control maps each having the same travel distance of a speed pedal excepting different speed ranges, and selecting the desired speed range relating to one of the plurality of control maps. In this way, an operator can select a speed range matching the operation such as traveling from one location to another, maneuvering, or loading a substance on a truck. |
